Yes! I currently have a mixed herd of twelve dairy goats: both Nigerian Dwarf goats, a small-sized dairy goat, and Nubians, a standard-sized dairy goat. I use them for milking, brush mitigation (preventing fire from spreading), and making compost for my olive trees and garden.

Currently, Maybelline is based on a 2025 Nigerian Dwarf doe named Twilight. She is a lovely, mischievous little goat who we are now calling Maybelline! Originally, Maybelline was actually a Nubian goat my grandkids raised many years ago. We started making oral stories using her name, so I kept that name for the book series.

All the other goats featured in the story actually live or lived on my farm! Herd queen Aunt Ivy, Token, Rennie, Aunt Coffee, Cookie and Trudie are all actual goats! Skye is real, but is “Maybelline’s” aunt in real life. Maybelline’s friend Maddie’s actual name is Tiger Lily. Tiger Lily’s grandma was named Madison, so I named the character in honor of that first spotted goat that was born on my farm.

Sorry, but for liability reasons I can’t host groups here. However, if you have a children’s playgroup or homeschool group that would like, I could bring Maybelline or her baby sister for a reading+ show and tell! Must be within Sonoma County, Marin, or Napa, however.
